Home sweet (temporary) home.
Just came back from a long trip, and there’s nothing like home, as they say. Even though we’re tired and have lots of unpacking to do, there’s nothing that brings serenity and a sense of peace like when you’re in your own home.
After pondering over this a bit, I then started to remember the sahaba, who had left their home, their belongings, and everything they knew for the sake of Islam. They migrated to Madinah and lost their worldly status and riches, but gained an elite status that will be unmatched for the rest of eternity.
Many of the sahaba never had the opportunity to go back and visit Makkah either during Umrah al Qada, during the conquest of Makkah, or during the farewell Hajj of the Prophet ﷺ. They never got a chance to feel that sense of calm and peace that you get when you come home, because they had died as martyrs.
Always be thankful for what you have, but never get too comfortable in this world as if it will last forever.
Take the Prophet ﷺ and the Sahaba RA as your role models.
They are after all, the best of generations.

The destruction of ambition.
We live in a world where Senior citizens have more ambition than people in their 30s and 40s.
It’s really sad.
The beauty of Islam is that it has intrinsic methods that help us be ambitious.
Competing for doing good, striving for the akhirah, having optimism as the default perspective on life.
What was the Prophet ﷺ except ambitious in his purpose, sending letters to different rulers to spread the message of Islam?
What was the Prophet ﷺ except resilient in his purpose, never giving up and making sure Islam was spread far and wide, long after he was gone?
What was the Prophet ﷺ except optimistic in his purpose, telling the people that the lands of Syria and Persia will be conquered by the Muslims, even though they were still a small group in Madinah?
Resilience and ambition are a core component of being a Muslim, and we need to make sure our children are told to live a life of ambition, purpose, and fulfillment that leads us closer to Allah.
The modern conglomerate of sedating addictions is the enemy, be it literal or digital drugs, paralyzing ambition and purpose.

When do you start teaching your children about Islam?
The day they are born.
They won't know what you're talking about, but it will give you the confidence to speak to them consistently, and once they do get old enough to understand you, you will be a pro at talking to them in sha Allah.
Remember, keep it simple and easily digestible for the young kids.
Mention one point each day. Start slow, and continue to build.
Remember, you don't have to be a scholar, but just follow the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ who said:
Convey from me, even a single verse.
Sahih Bukhari 3461
It might sound crazy talking to a newborn baby, but it will make sense as they get older. You won't feel uncomfortable talking to them, because now it's an ingrained habit.
Small consistent habits like this will strengthen your ability to speak, especially about Islam. Your kids need it!

The celebration of debt.
Interesting thing I heard about debt today from an Islamic scholar.
Debt used to be something people were ashamed of in the past. It meant you were incapable, and not adequate enough to take care of your needs.
Your needs.
Today, debt is celebrated. Celebrated for our wants.
Our wants.
“I qualified for my 30-year mortgage loan!” (soon to be 50?)
“I got a good rate on my $60,000 car loan!”
I remember getting a hand-me-down car as my first car. Alhamdulilah it was paid off. Now I see way too many Muslim teenagers with cars they can’t afford. These are from practicing families too, not the completely secularized ones.
The desire to want to look cool and rich is strong, and no one is immune to those desires, especially when you’re put in a public school system where peers rank you by your ability to look rich. It was the same when I was in school, and it is still there now, amplified by social media and illusory posts of “rich” individuals.
I don’t expect the school systems to teach children about finances and the dangers of debt, and they definitely won’t teach your kids from the Islamic perspective, but where are the parents??
Why are you letting your kids make stupid decisions?

This book can literally save marriages.
I’m only a quarter of the way through this book, but it is the type of book that will make you question why you assumed the Western way of doing things is always right, especially parenting.
There’s a reason why Western parenting is deemed as WEIRD, an acronym meaning Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic. It sounds like the perfect way to raise a child, except it’s one of the worst ways to raise a child, and it’s why many people don’t want to have kids. They see how others suffer through the agony, and they wonder, “Why should I put myself through that?”
This book can literally save marriages by Allah’s permission.
It gives you a blueprint on how to raise children the way they have always been raised in the past, making them part of the family team and by not exhausting the parents by being a non-contributor.
Having your kids from a very young age watch what you do and learn to help you without being told makes everyone’s life easier.
The parents are more at ease, kids feel like part of the team, and parents can have more children without having to feel worried about the burden of doing more chores without any help.
Husbands are happier.
Wives are happier.
Children are happier.

Treatment of depression needs a reset.
Great article by The Epoch Times. In one of Witt-Doerring’s videos, he argued that 95% of people don’t really need antidepressants. They need resolutions to their problems. I would argue that for Muslims, 99% of people don’t need to use antidepressants. Most of medicine has a huge, if not 100% emphasis on science, but they never even entertain the supernatural aspect of life.

Does your phone make you laugh and cry, or does Allah make you laugh and cry?
Does your phone make you laugh and cry, or does Allah make you laugh and cry as he says in Surah Najm:
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ ٤٣
Moreover, He is the One Who brings about joy and sadness.[1]
[1] lit., laughter and weeping.
Surah Najm 53:43
Let me share two Hadith that makes me cry and laugh at the same time:
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet ﷺ said,
“The people will stand before the Lord of the worlds for the length of half of a day, which is like fifty thousand years. That day will be made easy for the believer like the sun lowering itself until it has set.”
Source: Musnad Abī Ya’lá 6025
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet ﷺ said, “The Day of Resurrection for the believers will be like the length of time between noon and afternoon prayers.”
Source: al-Firdaws lil-Daylamī 8893
The Day of Resurrection will be a hard day, and the narrations of it do insight fear as the Prophet’s of Allah (may Allah be pleased with them) themselves will be concerned about their deeds. So how about us?!
But on the other hand, Allah gives us hope and mercy, and lets us know that for the believers, the difficulty will be minimal, in sha Allah.
Make sure it is Allah who makes you laugh and cry, and don’t turn your phone into a demi-god that gives you what you need when you need it.

Take your women to the Masjid to learn.
Going to the masjid isn’t required for women, but in today’s society and time, more women should go to the masjid and attend lectures and seek knowledge. Parents have to be at the forefront of this.
Why is it “OK” to send our women to public schools, have a job, play sports with their awrah being revealed, and even attend school dances, but then say Islam says it is better to stay at home for women than to go to the masjid?!
If your daughters go astray, don’t be stupid and think, “Oh my God, how did this happen?!”
You let it happen.
We all have to ask ourselves, are we truly sacrificing for the next life, or are we sacrificing our akhirah for fleeting gains in the dunya?
And no, watching lectures at home doesn’t have the same effect. Your attention is compromised since you’re looking at a screen versus at a human being.
